General Guidelines for Submission of Late-Breaking Abstracts

CANS is now accepting late-breaking abstracts for podium or poster presentation at the 2024 State of the Science Congress. Late-breaking abstract submissions should exemplify novel research and data that were not previously available prior to the February 16, 2024 abstract submission deadline. Research must be complete. Abstracts should clearly specify how the work contributes to the current state of nursing science. Submitted abstracts should include new, unpublished information that, at the time of submission, has not been presented at any level. If referencing previously published information, please indicate what information is novel.

This year’s conference is centered on envisioning the future of nursing science. Agenda sessions will address emergent topics such as artificial intelligence and social determinants of health, adaptive science on enduring health problems, and novel strategies to scale-up nurse-led solutions, however, abstracts accepted for presentation at the conference will span a wide variety of research areas outside of these topics. We invite participants to share contributions on a national platform that will shape and inform the future of nursing science.

Authors may submit multiple abstracts, and we ask that you note the topic of each abstract during the submission process. Student submissions are encouraged, and abstracts reporting literature reviews, systematic reviews, and/or conceptual frameworks related to the conference theme will be considered.

Important Deadlines

You may edit your abstract through April 10, 2024. After April 10, 2024 at 11:59 PM ET, your abstract is considered final and will be reviewed based on the content provided.

Submission Fee

There is a one-time, non-refundable fee of $85 per abstract submitted. There is no additional presentation fee if your abstract(s) is accepted. You will also be required to register for the conference in order to present your abstract(s). You can find more information regarding the conference, including the conference registration fees on the conference website.

Presentation Format & Conference Registration

Accepted late-breaking abstracts will either be designated for poster or podium presentation. Please note that the format of presentation will be based on availability. Podium presenters will have approximately 12-15 minutes for presentation (may vary depending on session). Final presentation instructions will be sent at the time that decision notifications are sent (early April). Posters will be displayed at a scheduled time during the conference, during which time you will be able to present your poster and engage in discussion and Q&A with attendees.

Presenters will receive the Early-Bird registration rate for the conference.

Your Abstract Should Include the Following Components

Title: A brief statement of the nature of the investigation or purpose of the project.

Author: Presenting author information.

Aims: The overall purpose or objective, question, or study hypothesis.

Methods:  Describe the study or project design and methods (sample, procedures, measures, and/or data analysis). Please note that the study can use qualitative or quantitative methods.

Results: Discussion of research findings and products.

Conclusions: Describe the overall impact and findings of the study, and, if applicable, note any relevance to health equity, social determinants of health, and emerging topics shaping the future of science and healthcare.

The body of the abstract (aims through conclusions sections) is limited to 250 words in total. As part of the online submission process, presenters will be asked to select the content area(s) that best reflect their submission.

Review and Selection

The 2024 Abstract Review Committee will determine the final selection of abstracts based on scores and recommendations from peer reviewers.

Timeline

The online abstract submission process for late-breaking abstracts ends at 11:59 PM ET on April 10, 2024. The review process will begin shortly after April 10, 2024 and announcements are scheduled to take place in late April-early May.
